Why I Do Not Own A Cellphone

I'm probably one of the only people left in this world who doesn't own or has never owned a cellphone.  When most people hear that I don't have one, the usual response is....You don't own one!?! While looking at me like I have ten heads. There's even some people who flat out do not believe me.
My one and only reason for not having a cellphone is this: I simply have no desire to own one.

To elaborate a little further on this I'll share a few points that just turn me off of cellphones.

Humans have become way too dependant on technology.

I found this picture a few minutes ago and it states everything I'm talking about. The sad thing is, there is actually people out there that this photo reflects perfectly.
I know people who will not go anywhere without their phones and who get genuinely upset if they have forgotten it. Its crazy to me.

People seem more interested in their phones then actual human interaction.

This is a huge one for me. There is nothing I hate more then being in the middle of a conversation and have the person i'm talking to pick up their phone and start playing with it. I can maybe understand if your phone rings and you go to pick it up, but come on..is it really necessary to read a text while i'm explaining something to you? The text will still be there once we've finished talking. Don't even get me started on texting while driving/walking.

Children who use cellphones

This just doesn't make any sense to me. I don't think its "cool" or that you have " the smartest toddler ever" because they know how to use your cell. Toddlers mimic. If you sat there putting puzzles together all day the way you used your phone, your 2 year old would be a whiz at puzzles too. People may not realize this but technology could have a pretty negative impact on your child's development. Here's a great article if you're interested.

The last point i'd like to make is that they are ridiculously expensive. I just looked up the price of the newest version of Iphone. The Iphone 6. It costs $749!! And if you want the iphone 6 plus it would cost $859! I'm sorry but that costs more then one months rent for me. And for what, to have it drop and smash the screen. Which seems to happen to everyone.

I don't mean any offence to all of those out there who use & love their cellphones. I know there are some advantages to owning one like if your car broke down and you were stranded. Or if there were an emergency. The point of this post was letting you know my reasons for not owning one.
They have a tendency of taking over peoples lives. I wouldn't want that for myself. Thats all.

90's Kid | Childhood Movies

There is one thing I often think about that I am truly grateful for. Being a 90s kid.
The 90s were the absolute best years. We had the best toys, the best clothes, the best snacks, and of course...the best movies.

Being a huge movie buff I'm constantly trying to find something really good to watch. I always catch myself saying....I wish they made movies like they did when we were kids.

Now usually when you think about things that were just AMAZING when you were little, they tend to end up kind of dumb once you find them again.

Just the first one. The second one isn't so great. I have probably seen this movie 100 times. It never gets old.
Does anyone else still die laughing when Dennis gets his hair stuck in the vacuum?

This movie.
Honestly, since its release in 1998 I don't think I've ever missed a Halloween watching this.
It brings me back to being a kid and I get lost in the wonder that is Halloween Town.
Last Christmas Craig bought me Halloween Town 1-3 as a set.
Best. Present. Ever.

The olsen twins were my childhood! I think every movie they've ever made was incredible! This one was by far my favorite though.

If you've never seen this movie. Please do!
You wont regret it, I promise.

My love for the strange and unusual didn't stop at Halloweentown. Who doesn't love the Addams Family!?
Addams Family Values was another really good one. My sister and I loved it so much that when my mother was pregnant for my brother...we begged her to name him Pubert.

Such a cute and funny movie! I can't tell you how many times i've watched this.

Me and my sister loved this movie so much, we had our mom rent it for us at least 4 times a week.
I wish I were joking about that.
Its not so bad considering it only cost about 50 cents to rent a movie back then and the store was just across the street from us.
Rocky, Colt and Tum Tum will forever have my little child sized heart.

Jungle 2 Jungle
Richie Rich

I hope you enjoyed reading this! I had fun looking back at old movies I love! Let me know if you've ever even heard of these and tell me some of your absolute favorite childhood movies!!

Ten on Tuesday | Bad Moods

For some reason, its incredibly easy for us to fall into a bad mood.
Or maybe thats just me...

Here are ten easy things you can do to instantly lift your bad mood!

1. Step outside.
A change of scenery might be all you need to switch moods. If you're in a really bad mood maybe going for a trek in the woods will help or if its warm enough head over to the nearest beach.

2. Take it all in.
Find out whats bothering you and ask yourself...is this going to affect me an hour from now? Ten minutes from now? If not, its not really worth putting yourself in a bad mood over it, now is it?

3. Turn on some lighthearted music.
Listen to something that actually makes you feel good for a few minutes.

4. Dance!
Dancing around will always make you feel better. Usually because you'll end up laughing at how ridiculous you look!

5. Be kind.
If you're in a bad mood, doing something nice for someone and seeing their reaction will mostly always make you feel better.

6. Think of something good.
When you're angry, think of something really good that has happened to you recently. Or maybe thinking of that delicious dessert you have waiting at home or a loved one might do it!

7. Call an upbeat friend.
Make sure the person you call is normally in a really great mood! Just like bad moods, happy moods tend to rub off on you!

8. Write down whatever is bothering you.
Sometimes writing down and actually reading the cause of your bad moods really help. You might notice that these things aren't really that bad after all!

9. Exercise.
Focus more on "jumping" exercises. Like jumping jacks or jumping rope. These kinds of exercises tend to release happy-making endorphins!

10. SMILE!
Turn that frown upside down. They say it works! :)

Forever 21 wish list | Peasant Style

I recently browsed through Forever 21 searching for a new outfit. The store here is so incredibly huge I would never be able to fully look at everything there unless I spent a good 2 hours in there!

So I settled for looking at their website and came up with a wishlist!

I've been drawn to the peasant style clothing lately.

What's your current favorite style?

How To : Battle Cold Sores

Lets talk about cold sores today.
90% of people get at least one cold sore in their lives.
If you've never had one, consider yourself very lucky!

Cold sores suck, to say the least.
The burn, they itch, they swell and they have the power of making you feel like the ugliest person that ever walked the planet.

Today hits the 2 year mark of my last cold sore!
Now this is amazing considering I would get at least one every year maybe even two.

I wanted to share with you how I battle cold sores and managed to keep them away for so long.

All I use are these 3 main products.

Rubbing Alcohol

I use this whenever I feel that oh so familiar itchy sensation before a cold sore comes out.
You can use a cotton swab and dab some alcohol on the spot you normally get a cold sore.

If a cold sore happens to pop out I still use alcohol on it. Very frequently. The alcohol will dry it up way faster then all of those products people try to sell you, like abreva.
Do not use that. In my experience it only makes them 10 times worse.

Im pretty sure this is what saved me.
Lysine is a natural supplement. People use this to help treat and prevent the growth of the herpes virus.

If you currently have a cold sore, you can take 3 of these a day until its healed. If you don't have a cold sore you can still take 1 a day to help prevent further outbreaks.

When I first started taking these I was doing the 3 a day while I had a cs.
After it was gone I took 1 a day.
Now, lysine is supposed to produce natural collagen in your skin. So its been noted that people with bad acne have actually seen a difference in their skin.
I never had a problem with acne so with my unfortunate luck the lysine had the opposite affect on my skin. I started getting really bad pimples. Like, deep in the skin pimples.

If this happens to you, I would stop taking it.

But thats okay. Theres another way for this to work.

After I stopped taking them, whenever I felt that tingle or burn, I would take one of the pills and run it under the water for a few seconds and then I would rub the pill over my lip to create a sort of paste.

This works just as well as taking them!

You can buy these at Walmart or any store with a natural supplement section.

Berry Blistex

Just your typical blistex. This is the only thing I can put on my lips that doesn't irritate them. It has to be berry. I'm not sure what it is about this particular one but any other flavour or brand makes my lips feel funny. I take this everywhere. To work, when I'm out and its always sitting somewhere beside my bed. I coat my lips with it before I go to sleep.

So there you have it!

I'm in no way suggesting I am an expert in this but I wanted to share with you what has worked for me these past few years. Hopefully they work for you too!

Also remember

Cold sores are highly contagious!!
Do not share utensils or drinks with anyone. Absolutely NO kissing while you have a cold sore.
Be especially careful around children. I was 8 years old when I had my first cold sore. Let me tell ya, I wasn't kissing any boys at that age so I've always been a little mad at whoever it was that allowed me to drink from them or whatever the case may be.

This is not a sponsored post, I genuinely use each of these products everyday.

Just saying Hi

Hello everyone!

I didn't have anything in mind today for a post. I just wanted to say hi! and share a few random pictures.

I talked about Craig's sisters wedding during the holidays and said I would share some pictures with you. Here are a few..

Craig with his sister and two brothers.

The pretty centre pieces

One of the only photos of us that night!

Craig bought me the Jillian Michaels beginner dvd!
I've done it a few times now but my back started to hurt after a few days of it so i'm taking a little break.
For now.

I learned how to play risk the other day! Its actually quite fun!
If you're like me and think ugh that game looks dumb, just try it!
You may be surprised at how fun it is.

Let me know in the comments what you've been up to lately!

Ten on Tuesday | Stress

Today I wanted to talk about stress.
Everyone feels stress at some point in their lives but there are certain times when all you do is stress. It could be something going on in your personal life or at work. I'm telling you, stress is a killer.

Common habits caused by stress include:

Eating terrible food
Constantly obsessing over things you cannot change
Trouble sleeping
Constant venting
& just feeling completely overwhelmed with everything

It affects every part of you. Your mind, your body.

Here is a list of 10 simple things you can do to try and eliminate stress:

1. Learn to say NO. I have a hard time with this one myself. Sometimes I feel bad if I say no to someone but the reality is, if its someone who constantly gets you to do something, chances are they know they're taking advantage of you and they just don't care. So, for the sake of your own sanity say No every once in a while.

2. Allow time for yourself. Go home, turn off your phone, run a hot bubble bath and read for a while ( or at least until you turn pruney from the water.)

3. Change your eating habits. I know how easy it is to run home feeling stressed and crave that chocolate bar you have sitting in the cupboard. While it may make you feel good for a moment while eating it, you'll probably feel 10 times worse later on. Grab some good food. When your body feels good, you tend to feel good too.

4. Watch your favorite show or movie. Relax and get lost in the drama of others. Fake drama from a tv show, Even better!

5. Exercise. I know the last thing you want to think about when you're feeling stressed is getting all sweaty and out of breath. The truth is, exercising produces good endorphins which actually can make you feel happier! To try and eliminate stress for the day, put in a good workout exercise before you go to work. Trust me on this one.

6. Go for a walk. Getting some fresh air can really help. You don't even have to walk..just go OUT. If whatever is stressing you is connected to your home life, stepping away for a while can make a huge difference.

7. Take a nap. After you have that nice hot bath we talked about earlier, go lay down. Maybe all you really needed was an extra hour or 2 of sleep.

8. Chat with a friend/relative. Call up your friend or your sister or your mother. Someone you feel comfortable talking to. Someone who doesn't mind listening for a while and usually comes up with something helpful to say. Remember, just talk about what you're feeling, try not to vent.

9. Go shopping. I know this only applies if you have the extra funds. But if you do, try a little retail therapy. I know for myself just walking around a store by myself looking makes me feel pretty calm. It also doesn't hurt to buy yourself something every now and then.

10. Last but certainly not least, Cry. If you're feeling overwhelmed and like you want to burst out crying, Do it. Holding it in only makes it worse. You'll feel so much better once you get it all out.

I hope these tips may have helped you a little if you're feeling stressed.
Let me know some other things you like to do when you're stressed out!

About me from A to Z | A

A is for academic

I got this idea from Oh! Leona. It gives readers a chance to get to know you on a more personal level. While its the same idea, I'm choosing different words that work for me.

So for the letter A I decided to talk about the academic part of my life.

I'll run quickly through the earlier school years because I wanted to focus mainly on my college experience. Since thats the most recent for me.

Elementary: Primary to 6

I was shy all throughout elementary. I had a few moments where I broke out of my shell but then went right back to being shy. I always worked hard. I liked having my work finished correctly. I specifically  remember a day in primary, we colored a picture of a big dog and my coloring was inside all of the lines and the teacher held mine up for the rest of the class to see. I remember feeling proud.
She did that quite frequently with my work and I soon became...I dont know..embarrassed? I didn't like the way she always held up my work for others to look at.
I wanted to be good. I wanted to be smart. But it was like I didn't want others to see it.

An example of this happened in Grade 3. We had a little spelling quiz out loud and the word was Wednesday. I was the only one in the class who could spell it but I wouldn't raise my hand because I didn't want to be the only one to spell it.

Thats pretty well how my elementary days went. Getting good grades and being shy.

Middle School: Grade 7 to 9

I missed a lot of school these years. And I mean a lot. This was that point in my life when I received my monthly visitor..and lets just say I didn't handle it well.

Grade 7 was a breeze. I received 100s for final marks in pretty much everything and got an honors award that year. Grade 8 and 9, I'm not sure what happened to me lol I guess I just didn't care about school anymore because my grades seriously sucked.

High School: Grade 10 to 12

Grade 10 was more of the same. I got half decent grades in my classes except for pal. Pal was kind of like gym only less intense. My teacher absolutely hated me for some reason and I received a final mark of 50. Which is just passing. If I had of received a 49 I would have failed the class.
Grade 11 and 12 were awesome though. I did a lot better in my classes. I remember barely studying. In grade 12 me and some friends were in the library the day of exams and they were all hard in their books and they kept asking me, aren't you going to study? I remember saying nah, I'm just gonna wing it. And  I did. And I somehow passed every exam. I was just lucky I guess.

Now I use the term college lightly when talking about my experience. I chose to take a couple of years off from school after graduating high school. I had no idea what I wanted to do. I wanted to do business, then I wanted to be a librarian and it constantly changed. In December of 2011 I decided I wanted to be a Medical Secretary. I heard of a College that allowed you to do the entire course at home. They sent me a new laptop and all of the books. It was incredibly pricey but the course only lasted a year and they promised a high success rate of landing a good job once you graduate.
I worked so hard. I was determined to finish this course with an honors diploma.
The course had easy moments but it also had extremely tough moments.
I cried a couple of times because I was so stressed out.
The course I took was called Advanced Medical with Accounting. I also had to teach myself everything because I had to do it at home. The only thing the school did was correct my tests and assignments. After a long year of that. I did it. I graduated with honors.

For months and months I searched for a job and passed out resumes everywhere I could think of. I didn't get a call back for a single job. Most places didn't even recognize the school I had attended.

So..to me I feel like it was a giant waste of time and money. Not only could I not find a job, I don't even want to be a medical secretary anymore! haha

I'm not saying college or university is a waste of time for everyone.
I'm just stating that I could do without the giant student loan I now have to pay back.

I didn't mean for this post to be so long! Sorry about that :)
If you're interested in doing an A to Z series on your blog, leave me a link, I would love to read them!! Remember you can make up any words you want for each letter or you can follow along with mine!

The Best Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies

Today I made these delicious oatmeal chocolate chip cookies with a hint of cinnamon and maple.
I've never made oatmeal cookies before but I must say, these turned out incredibly well!
These cookies aren't dairy free but there isn't a lot of dairy in them, just the small amount of milk thats found in the chocolate chips. I always use Vegan margarine when I bake/cook.

What you'll need:

1 cup vegan margarine softened ( I use Becel)

1 cup of brown sugar

1/2 cup of white sugar

2 eggs

1 teaspoon of maple extract

1 1/2 cups of all purpose flour

1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon

1 teaspoon of baking powder

3 cups of oats

1 bag of chocolate chips

Preheat your oven to 375 degrees. Line your cookie sheet with parchment paper.

Beat margarine (butter), brown sugar and white sugar in a bowl until its creamy. Add in the eggs and maple extract. Mix ingredients.

In a separate bowl mix flour, cinnamon and baking powder. Stir this mix into your butter mixture. Make sure there are not clumps.

Gradually add your oats. ( I added about 1 cup at a time)

Add chocolate chips. ( You can add however many you like, I put a little more then half of a 300g bag.)

Scoop 1 to 2 tablespoons of batter onto cookie sheet. Bake in the oven for 10 minutes. Take out and let cool.

I made 21 cookies out of this batch.

I hope you enjoyed this! If you love oatmeal cookies you have to try these! They're delicious!

Flashback Friday #16

February 2009

Little day trip to Mahone Bay

Looking through this batch of old pictures for my flashback post made me realize something.
Getting older sucks.

I don't know if this applies to everyone but it seems like once you're finished of school you kind of let yourself go. I don't mean drastically. It just seems like you don't care how you look as much.

Here are some thoughts that run through my mind whenever I look at older pictures of myself:

I wish I was still that size!

Why can't my hair go like that again?

Why does my makeup look so much better!?

Did I forget how to do my hair and makeup?

What size were those jeans!? That's never gonna happen again.

I feel like I was happier back then. And the reason for that is simple.
I felt better about myself.

I've noticed a huge decline in the amount of pictures I used to be apart of compared to now. I hate getting in pictures.

Have any of you ever had the same or similar thoughts to what I have?
I'm sure some of you do.

There's only one thing we can do:
Make ourselves feel better!

If you've gained weight over the years, change your eating habits, exercise. Even if its only 3 times a week, a little goes a long way!

If you're unsatisfied with your hair maybe its time for a change. A new haircut or maybe even a new color could make you feel like a million bucks!

Same goes for makeup! Maybe all it takes is a new shade of lipstick to brighten yourself up!

I've personally been working on all of these things lately.

So lets stop crying over how we used to look and start focusing on what we still are and could potentially be!

Happy Friday!
Thanks for reading! :)

The "Me Time" Tag

Who doesn't love having a bit of "me time"
I know I do. I actually request it from time to time.
Sometimes you just need to have time for yourself and just do whatever YOU want.

I found this tag on the blog Vix Meldrew. I wasn't personally tagged but I wanted to do the tag anyway!

What do you watch or read during me time?
I usually have some sort of show on the go on Netflix. For a while its been Dawson's Creek. Craig doesn't like that show one bit so I tend to watch it more when i'm alone. I'll also catch up on a bunch of youtube videos i've missed.
As for reading, I just read whatever book i'm currently reading. Or i'll sit down and read a ton of blogs!

What do you wear during me time?
Either pj pants or sweat pants!

What are your me time beauty products?
I'm not sure if Lush products are considered to be beauty products but getting a bath with a nice bath bomb or some other type of bubble bath is my favorite!

Current favorite nail polish?
Essie is my favorite brand to buy. My favorite right now would have to be Mademoiselle by Essie. Its very light so it kind of looks like you're not wearing anything but it gives your nails a nice pale look.

What do you eat/drink during me time?
Oh my. Anything and everything. I would say I have a pretty unhealthy relationship with junk food so when I get time alone I  use that time to just eat whatever I want. I'm slowly stopping though!

Current favorite candle?
I haven't boughten a candle in a long time. I've just been using my Scentsy warmer. Right now we have apple cinnamon in there. It smells soo good.

Do you ever have outdoor me time?
I can't say that I do! When I think of having me time I just think Yes! I get to laze around and do what I want! ..maybe I should go out more.

Would you ever go see a movie alone?
I'd like to say yes, but knowing myself I know I never would. I feel awkward enough being out in public when i'm with others. I couldn't imagine doing it alone!

 Favorite online store?
I like looking on Forever 21's website. We finally have a Forever 21 around here now and I've only gone in one time!!

Anything to add? What else do you do during me time?
I love reading while getting a nice hot bath!
I like turning the music up loud and singing along!
And I like playing games sometimes..like the sims.

Thanks for reading! I'd love to see your answers to these questions, so leave them down in the comments or if you want to do this tag leave me a link down there!!

Ten on Tuesday | Good Deeds

I don't know about you, but when I do something nice for someone I generally feel really good about myself. Not just doing or saying something to get recognition. I actually love making others feel happy.
I personally know someone who would give anybody the world. She has literally taken the shirt off of her back once. The only problem is, she wants about 5000 pats on the back from everyone around her.

Here's a list of ten good things you can do for someone without gaining any recognition for them. These are just for YOU. To let you feel happy from the happiness of others!

1. Leave a really nice note on the windshield of someones car

2. Pay for the next person in lines order when going through a drive-thru

3. Pick a good cause and donate however much you can

4. Put extra change in a parking meter for someone if you notice its getting low

5. Pick up any trash you see lying around

6. Donate blood

7. Go through all of your old clothing and books and donate to a local Salvation Army.

8. When you're out early in the morning shovelling snow from your driveway, head over and shovel your neighbours as well

9. Leave a very nice tip for your waiter at a restaurant, leave before they see it!

10. Smile at everyone you pass for a day. Smiling is contagious! You just might make someones day!

I hope you enjoyed reading this! Go out and do something nice today!
