HOW TO: Save Time in the Morning

To me, there is nothing worse then sleeping in and realizing I now have to rush to make it to work on time. I hate rushing. On a different note, I also love sleeping. So I either get to sleep in and then get ready as fast as I can or wake up early and feel crabby for not having my usual 9 hours of sleep....just kidding.
Not really.
The only way to fix this is to figure out a way to sleep longer and still have time to do everything else.
Good thing I've got 5 tips on how to save time!

1. Choose your outfit the night before
This will save you SO much time! Usually when I get ready, finding what I'm going to wear is the very last thing I do and I usually end up in a panic because obviously- I have nothing to wear! Remove this dilemma from your morning routine by having it all ready to go the night before.

2. Have breakfast and lunch ready
Same as the above, have your breakfast all picked out the night before. If you drink coffee, have the coffee maker all set up so you just have to press Go! If you're into making smoothies, have your fruit pre-cut and ready for the blender. The same goes for your lunch. Place it in tupperware in the fridge and just grab it on your way out the door!

3. Take your shower and do your hair before bed
Eliminating the shower in the morning will save you big time. When I used to go to work for 6:00am I always showered the night before. If you fear that your hair will get messed up while you sleep, I can tell you with all honesty, that has never happened to me. I would just run a brush through it when I got up and it looked like it was just done!

4. Set your alarm clock a half an hour early
One of the biggest problems I face is hitting the snooze button in the morning. Trick yourself and set your clock a half hour early. That way when you actually Do wake up, it'll most likely be the time you were supposed to wake up anyway!

5. Keep all electronics off
I am so terrible for this. Even if I know I've slept in, the first thing I do when I wake up is go on the computer. I usually start reading blogs and then before I know it, an hour or so has passed! Leaving me no time at all to get ready. The simple solution would be to keep all electronics turned off. Computers, cellphones, etc. If you find you have time after you're all ready, then turn them on.

I hope these tips were at least a little bit helpful! I know I'll be trying them out. Happy Weekend everyone! :)

Flashback Friday #22

JULY 11TH, 2009

I'm pretty sure this was our first camping trip together since moving away from Cape Breton.
Just the two of us, some s'mores and a crappy half pink half grey car.

Okay, lets talk about the PLANET in the room.
Do you see that massive pimple in the centre of my forehead!!
I remember that pimple.
That thing stayed there for like 2 weeks!

This was the very first time I ever ate a s'more!
It was delicious.

And in the morning it poured. We packed everything up as quickly as we could and left!

Hope you enjoyed! :)

6 Places I Would Love to Visit

I love traveling. I haven't been to many places yet but someday I hope to travel the world. Or at least part of it. Here are my top 6 places I would love to visit.

I think Hawaii is just beautiful! This is definitely at the top of my list.

Scotland is a place both me and Craig have wanted to go to for a while now. I'm curious to see how similar Scotland is to where we live. Did you know Nova Scotia means New Scotland in Latin?

Of course Paris had to be on this list! I don't think I've ever met anyone who hasn't wanted to visit Paris.

New Zealand

To me, New Zealand just seems magical. Almost like its not real.

New York

Although I tend to stray away from big cities, I would absolutely love to see New York.

And lastly, Alabama.
I know its odd but I've always been drawn to Alabama. I remember when I was a kid asking my mom over and over if we could move there. I've never been there and I do not know a single person from there but something makes me want to go.
Maybe one day i'll find out.

Ten on Tuesday | Life's Best & Worst Moments

source pinterest

Happy Tuesday everyone!

Lets talk about life. There's only one thing to say really: life is hard.
I mean its not always hard but we all definitely have our moments.
You've gotta take the good with the bad.

For this weeks Ten on Tuesday I want to share some of my life's best and worst moments.
5 Best and 5 Worst

The night Craig asked me to be his girlfriend- Cheesy, I know. But I can still remember exactly how I felt that night. It was totally unexpected. We were hanging out at my house and he asked me just as he was going out the door. I said yes, obviously. Once I knew he was out of the driveway I jumped around the kitchen like a fool! haha

That time I went skydiving- The most unforgettable thing I have ever done in my life. I remember feeling excitement rather than fear. I think everyone should try it sometime!

Our trip to Disney World- A few years ago me, Craig, my sister and her boyfriend all drove to Florida to stay at Disney World for 9 whole days! Being a huge Disney fan, this trip was pure magic.

The day my niece was born- I went with my sister to one of her regular baby appointments one day and it turned out her water had already broken a couple of days before! That's the day Eva came into the world. She really is a ray of sunshine. She's the funniest child I've ever met!

The day I found out I graduated college with honours- I probably squealed when I found out. As some of you may know, I did all of my college coursework at home and pretty well had to teach myself everything. The very last assignment I had to do was for accounting and boy was it tough. I shed a few tears while working on that assignment due to stress. But, I did it! I've never been more proud of myself for accomplishing something.

That time my brother accidentally cracked my front tooth in half- This happened in the 11th grade. My little brother was trying to show me a "trick" with his marble magnets. The marble came flying at my mouth and when I felt that little piece of tooth hit my tongue I was devastated. It goes without saying that I cried and told my dad I was Definitely Not going to school. Now I have this fake piece of tooth and I'm forever babying it, scared to death its going to fall off someday!

Kayaking with Craig- This sounds like it should be listed in the Best section but sadly its not. We had to use a two-person kayak which I think is the reason we had such a terrible time. Apparently two-person kayaks are much harder to use. We were pretty horrible at it. Both of us were soaked by the time we made it to the little island we were headed for. Not to mention the other people who were on the same journey as us were all military men! They were just zoomin through the water while Craig and I struggled. haha

That time I had that job I hated- I think we all have that job we absolutely can't stand. The sad thing is, is that I actually enjoyed what I was doing. I made binders. Doesn't sound very fun but I really liked it. I love working with my hands. The thing that made it unbearable which led me to quitting was my boss. He was an older man who liked to blame me for absolutely everything. And made me feel like crap for not knowing how to do something. Also, he was incredibly creepy. He used to want to hold my hand walking from room to room and got very angry with me if I didn't sit and have my breaks with him. I got out of there fast.

When Craig's lung collapsed- Probably the scariest thing we've been through. Craig's lung collapsed because he's a rather tall and skinny guy, this is actually quite common, and his lung pushed against his ribs and I guess it just tore it. He was in the hospital for a bit. Then a couple of weeks later it happened again so this time he needed surgery. He's okay now, but I hope we never have to go through that again.

Not being able to get a job- After I graduated feeling oh so proud of my hard work I quickly realized nobody wanted to hire me! Every single place I applied wanted someone with experience. Which I find so frustrating because I'm a new graduate, of course I have no experience! After going months jobless I finally gave up and decided I didn't even want to be a medical secretary anyway. I still have no idea what I want to do.

I hope you enjoyed reading this!

My Nail Polish Collection

I love getting new nail polish. Even though I can only wear it 3 days out of a week ( due to work).
Today I wanted to share my collection with you! Its not large by any means. I'm slowly collecting because Essie is quite expensive for a single nail polish. And now you're probably saying, "Why can't you just buy other nail polish brands that are cheaper?" Well, there are two reasons for this:
1. Essie is my absolute favorite so naturally thats the kind of nail polish I would want to buy
2. I have a slight obsession with "collecting" things. I think it might be turning into a problem. I wish I were joking, but i'm not. When I find something I like I feel like I need to get everything that goes along with it. I do this with everything. If I watch a certain movie or show and theres an actor I like in it I'll say "I need to own every movie they've ever been in!"
So since Essie has fallen under my crazy obsession needs, I just can't bring myself to start buying other types of nail polish. I know, weird.

Anyway, Let's get on to the nail polish!

left to right

008 Blanc
112 Mademoiselle
668 Sand Tropez
608 In Stitches
1058 Fashion Playground

My favorite ones right now are Mademoiselle and Fashion Playground.

Flashback Friday #21

June 27th, 2009

We went to a place called Upper Clements Park.
This was my first time visiting this park.

They have this rickity old wooden roller coaster. It seems like it wouldn't be too bad but it has some pretty steep parts and shakes so much you feel like you might fall out.

That was my very first time on a roller coaster!

Why You SHOULD Fall in Love With Your Best Friend

I've never told the story of how me and my boyfriend Craig came to be. And I won't be telling that story today. We'll save that for another day. What I will tell you is that we started off as very good friends.
If anyone even uttered the words "You should go out with Craig!" my respond was usually something like "What!!? No way! He's like my best friend!"

This is the usual response from anyone who hears that about their close friend.
Well today, I'm going to tell you why you should push that automatic response to the side and give your best friend a shot.

1. They're your best friend for a reason: Right off the bat there was something you had in common with this person that attracted you to them. Maybe you liked the same music, the same food or you have the same weird sense of humor. Whatever it is, it works.

2. You already feel comfortable talking to them: Listen, if you've already told your guy best friend extremely personal stuff and he hasn't made a run for it yet, you can bet he's a keeper.

3. You know each other: You know what makes the other person happy or angry. They already know how to make you smile when you're having a bad day. You've probably already told them all of your embarrassing old stories.

4. He's probably already seen you in true form: No makeup, hair a mess, old sweat pants. You wont have to dread that point in the relationship.

5. He could end up being the greatest love of your life: So many people use the same excuse; I don't want to ruin my friendship with them. Trust me, this thought ran through my mind so many times. And honestly, I can't promise you that telling your friend you like them won't ruin your friendship. Because it very well could. But you'll never know unless you take a chance. They could have been waiting forever to hear you say that.

So I say go for it! And if they tell you they don't feel the same way and stop hanging out with you, well, maybe it wasn't such a great friendship after all.

Wanna play a game?

I'm going to tell you three facts about myself. Two being true and one being a lie.

1. I was born without any wisdom teeth

2. I have 4 piercings

3. I have never had the chicken pox

Which one do you think is the lie!

ps. This is the last day to enter my giveaway for a chance to win a Wreck This Journal!
There are only a few entries so you've got a pretty good shot at winning!

February 17, 2015

On one hand I...

-am shy
-hold the title for being the most stubborn creature you'll ever meet
-often let people walk all over me
-can become crazy cranky in the snap of a finger
-am terrible at consoling people when they're sad
-am incredibly awkward in social situations
-feel sad sometimes for no apparent reason
-eat junk food way too much
-hate my nose
-don't really like the sound of my voice

But on the other hand I...

-am kind
-give the best lingering hugs ever
-speak up when I see someone being treated unfairly
-try to see the good in people
-can be quite funny at times
-give my all to those I love
-am extremely weird. and I love it
-still see the magic and wonder in everything
-like my hair
-like my loud sometimes obnoxious laugh

This is who I am. The good and the bad. And I like me.

No two people are the same. As humans we tend to focus more on the bad qualities we have then the good which often leads to us comparing ourselves to others. I think thats the worst thing we can do to ourselves- compare. Why should you make yourself feel terrible because you aren't as skinny as her? Or popular? Or you aren't as funny as that person? You shouldn't. You shouldn't because you're perfect just the way you are. We all are. Every single person is unique and thats the best gift any of us could ever receive.
And the greatest gift you could ever give to yourself- is self-love.
Loving yourself will help you learn to appreciate everything you are.

So let's stop comparing ourselves to others and beating ourselves up and just be happy.

The Winter Blues

Something terrible has happened.

I came down with something.

I seem to have a case of the winter blues.

ME! The winter blues! A girl who longs for winter during the hot summer months. A girl who normally considers everything to do with snow beautiful.
I just can't shake it.
Our weather lately has been bringing me down. Snow upon snow. Freezing rain on top of that so everything turns to ice. The bottom of our street has flooded on more then one occasion. Not to mention its minus degree weather every day.

I don't want to go anywhere or do anything. The sight of snow is starting to make me angry. I feel my entire body slouch when I hear someone say.."we're getting another 30cm tonight!"

So. There's only one thing I can do.
Find ways to break myself out of this mood until Spring comes along.

I've come up with a list of 5 things for myself and anyone else battling the blues to try. So here it is...

How to beat the winter blues:

1. Surround yourself with light. Whether its artificial or the actual sunlight, get under it. Even if its freezing out, if the sun is shining go outside for a few minutes. Open every blind and curtain. Turn on lamps. Anything.

2. Exercise outside. Dress warm and head outside for a walk. Walking should cause your body to feel warmer anyway and it may just make you feel better by getting a little exercise.

3. Find a winter activity. Like skiing, snowboarding, ice skating or snow shoeing. Finding an activity thats fun that you need snow for may cause you to end up liking the snow. If those activities don't tickle your fancy try winter photography. That's what i'll be trying. I need to find the beauty in snow and ice again.

4. Make your space "winter cozy". Have big warm blankets nearby to cuddle up in and have hot chocolate handy.
You can also try brightening up your place to make it feel a little less like winter indoors. Buy a couple of really bright and colorful pillows or even go as far as painting one of your rooms a nice bright color!

5. Bring yourself out of a rut. It could be as easy as changing your hairstyle or trying out new makeup looks! Treat yourself to a new outfit ( or two) but make sure you get fun bright pieces!

These are little things I'm going to be trying. Hopefully they're a little helpful to anyone else feeling down this winter!

Hope you enjoyed reading!

What do you do during the winter months to keep your spirits up?

And dont forget!..

Dracula the Un-Dead by Dacre Stoker & Ian Holt | Book Review

Book: Dracula the Un-Dead
Author: Dacre Stoker & Ian Holt
Genre: Horror
Published: 2009
Pages: 389
My rating:

A quarter of a century after Count Dracula "crumbled into dust," Quincey Harker-the son of Jonathan and Mina Harker-leaves law school to pursue a career on stage, only to stumble upon the troubled production of Dracula, directed and produced by Bram Stoker himself.

As the play plunges Quincey into the world of his parents' terrible secrets, death begins to stalk the original band of heroes that defeated Dracula a quarter-century ago. Could it be that the count survived and is now seeking revenge? Or is there another, far more sinister force at work whose relentless purpose is to destroy anything and anyone associated with Dracula, the most notorious vampire of all time?

My Review

As a lover of anything horror I was quite excited to find a copy of Dracula the Un-Dead for only $2.99 at a local thrift store. I had read the classic Dracula by Bram Stoker last year and had no idea there was an official sequel to the novel.
Looking at the reviews on Goodreads its safe to say majority of those who read this novel hated it. Mostly every review had 1 or 2 stars. I would have to disagree. I quite enjoyed it.
I think those who really didn't like it, were huge fans of the classic Dracula.
They kind of changed certain events (time frames and such) that took place in the original to make it fit into their novel. I thought it was okay though.

What I liked about this book:
- They brought back the original characters from Dracula. Telling how their encounter with the count changed their lives. I also think the authors did an amazing job staying true to the characters.
- It was easy to read.
I'm not sure if i'm the only one, but I find when I read classic novels I have a hard time processing what I'm reading because the way they were written back then is different. Very Shakespearean? I dont know. I liked how this book was a little more modernized while still being set in 1912.
-  You get to see a softer side of Dracula. I think this is something a lot of people didn't like. In the classic, Dracula is portrayed as a monster. In this sequel your view is completely turned around when shown Dracula's "true" intentions. I thought it was pretty interesting.

What I didn't like about this book:
- There is a new vampire introduced. Countess Elizabeth Bathory. While I enjoyed her part in the book I just thought the story was more focused on her and less of Dracula.
As someone on goodreads reviewed, the book is 90% Bathory 10% Dracula. Which I would have to agree. Seeing this new side of Dracula made me want to read more about it.
- An overload of characters. Lots of names thrown at you that kind of left your mind boggled. Wondering if they're important or not. (Most times they weren't)

Overall I give this 4/5 stars. I really enjoyed it.

If any of you have read this I just have one question that drove me crazy at the end! This isn't really a spoiler so dont worry those of you who haven't read it!

Near the end of the book, Bathory made Dracula see who it was that turned her into a vampire. Dracula became quite enraged at this. Who the heck was it!??
I don't know if I just missed this somehow throughout the book but I can't recall!
If you've read this, please tell  me! lol

Hope you enjoyed!

Flashback Friday #20

June 17th 2009

On this day we took a little trip to a wildlife park.
It always makes me feel a little sad seeing the animals locked in cages. It does make me feel a little better when I read on some signs that the animal is injured or wouldn't be able to survive in the wild.

Here are some photos from that day..

Before going to the park we had a slice of pizza. Look at the size of that crust!!
The slice was huge.

What Santa's reindeer do during the summer season.

And of course Craig had to get a high five from a raccoon.

I'd like to take a minute and say how thankful I am for cameras.
I love being able to look back years ago and see what I was doing on a certain day.
Looking through these pictures brings back all of these memories! Things I would have otherwise forgotten about.

Thanks for reading!
