Growing Up

Lately I've been thinking a lot about being an adult. At 24 years old, I am an adult. I feel funny saying that because in all honesty, I don't feel like an adult at all. Sure, I'm in a long term relationship, I have a job, I have my own place, I pay bills. I'm doing all of the things an adult is supposed to do.

But then I think, I still collect Disney movies (and adore watching them), I still like playing childish video games, I still whine when I'm having a bad day, I still look to my mother for comfort, and the thought of having my own kids right now- not uh.

Its weird. When I was growing up, 25 was THE age. That was the age I decided I would be grown-up enough to have a child. Now that I'll be 25 in about 3 months, I panic a little.

Not because I feel like I must grow up by then, but because I know I'm still not ready. Which then makes me think...will I ever be ready?

When does a person finally feel like a grown-up?

The other part to this, is the fact that I don't even know if I want to feel like an adult. I don't feel like I ever want to change. Is that good? Bad? I really don't know.

Sorry if I rambled a little. This is just something I've been thinking about lately.

  1. I totally know that panic. But then I remember being 12 and thinking 'I don't want to be a teenager...I still play with toys... I still watch family channel.. I will never want to be and teenager and I will be one so soon!" This was actually a huge fear of mine, that this life change was coming and I wasn't ready. But change is so natural that we become 'ready' and don't even realize it. 2 years later I was like "Heyyyyy girll! I have the biggest crush on Bobbie! Lets do out makeup and watch the OC!". One day we are just ready!

    1. I remember feeling like that before becoming a teenager too. Growing up is strange! lol

  2. I know how you feel. I'm 18 now so means I'm legally an adult but doesn't feel like it at all. I don't drink or anything or party so doesn't seem any different,

    1. Maybe it will never feel different!

  3. I am sixteen now and this probably sounds super stupid but I feel quite grown up. Not completely, but on the way. I also do childish things, especially when I'm around friends but I do not think that makes you any less adult!
Enjoy what you like and don't worry about being adult or not! Maybe in a few months or years you will miss how you feel now.
    Have a beautiful day, love!

    Ps: great post!!

  4. great post :) cute little blog

would love to know your thoughts on my new post Jadiee'sLittleBlog

    Have a nice day

  5. I feel the same! I think your mental age is honestly more important. Don't stress too much about what you should do at a certain age, do what works for you! :)

    1. Glad to know other people feel the same way! :)

  6. Sometimes I don't feel like a grown up at all, and other times I do. I don't think being a grown up has to mean having kids, being married, or settling down, it goes down to how you feel inside :)

    1. You're probably right! :) Perhaps I'll never feel grown up lol

  7. I'm in love with this post! Everyone always talks about wanting to be a 'grown-up', but I don't think anyone really understands what that actually means. Amazing post xx

  8. im 27 and do everything you do (minus the live on my own and long term relationship) and i still dont feel im grown up at all.
well i do and i dont.
    how do you know!?
    i have no idea.

    i guess you just know.

i was talking to a friend of mine who's married with 2 kids and we (another friend of mine and i) told her that we feel like were just...its weird.
and all her husband said was, that were stuck in limbo.
    and i like that!
your 20's are for figuring your shiz out i think personally.

im petrified of having to pay rent hence why im still home. that and im really anal about depending on other people to pay their half on time and living in california is that cheap either which is why i dont do it myself.

i think its feeling comfortable in your own skin.
you take care of you and what you need to and its all there.

but dont grow up, its a trap! ;)

    1. I like the idea of your 20s being in limbo! Great way to look at it :)

  9. I know how you feel. I'm 27 and I still feel that way too! When I was a kid planning out my life I always thought I would be so posh by now. Course now that I'm here, being posh is the last thing on my mind! I still like running around outside and playing video games... only now I just do those things after work or on the weekends. And with a husband. But when I compare my life now to what I thought it would be at this point... I'm really glad it worked out this way! And you should be too - I only just now found your blog and you seem pretty cool!

    1. Such a relief knowing just about everybody feels this way!

  10. It's strange but when I was a kid I saw being in your 20's as old, but now I'm 21 I still feel so young, but I like this age, i'm trying to enjoy it, but kind of hard when like you I have bills etc to pay.

    New Post out now:
    'Lush Haul//Easter Range'

    1. I used to think 20 was super old too! Making sure bills get paid gets a little bit easier over time! I usually take a portion out every pay. That way by the time they're due I'm not scurrying to find the money and it doesn't feel like All of my pay just went on bills!
