Re-Finished Dresser + How To Make Your Own Chalk Paint!

I finally feel like i'm getting somewhere when it comes to re-decorating our apartment. I kind of slacked off for a while there because we had decided that we were going to move soon and I thought, well, why would I finish doing this place over when we're just going to leave? I let this go on for a while and then decided I'd still like it to look nice for the time being even if we do plan to move come the summer. Our latest project was re-doing a dresser for our bedroom! I am so happy with the way it turned out. Our room is pretty small and having two dressers in there may not be ideal space-wise but I was kind of tired of sharing one dresser with Craig.

So this is the dresser. We bought this from a second hand store and I knew I needed it as soon as I saw it! I fell in love with the unique detailing. There was a price tag of $50 on it but the kind lady at the store gave it to us for only $30! So we took it home, sanded it down, made our own chalk paint for it ( i'll get into how we made ours soon!) and then varnished it. This is what it looks like now..

I am totally happy with how it turned out! I love how the black handles just pop against the white. For the handles we just used your typical black spray paint.

So making your own chalk paint is super easy! I love the look chalk paint gives furniture- kind of like a gritty, old look. And its perfect for those that want to distress furniture. I planned on distressing both of our dressers but in the end I preferred how it looked just like this. Anyway, chalk paint can be REAL expensive. Especially the Annie Sloan chalk paint which is really the only brand I could find around here. I think one quart was priced around $50.00!! I just couldn't do it. Considering we would need a lot more than that.

So here is the simple, inexpensive way to make your own:

Choose your latex paint- We went with Kitten White  (a slightly off-white shade) Around $22.00 for a gallon
Buy some Plaster of Paris- You can find this at your local hardware store. We paid less than $6.00 for a 2kg box.

That's all you need.

Mixing it is really simple as well. For every 1 cup of paint mix in 1/3 cup of plaster of paris. Add a bit of water until it becomes smooth and at the thickness you'd like. That's all! Overall it cost $28.00 and we still have tons of Plaster of Paris left and a bit of the paint left and that's after doing two dressers with it.

Hope you enjoyed this post!
Do you like re-doing old furniture?

Maybelline Dream Velvet Foundation Review

I have been wanting to try this foundation forever now and I finally went out and picked it up last week! Before buying I watched a ton of youtube reviews on it and all but one gave this foundation fantastic reviews. Read on for my own personal review!

Love it. I used to use a Maybelline foundation all throughout high school. It was in a blue tube with a grey cap and I can't for the life of me remember what it was called. Anyway, I loved that it came in a tube and I was so happy that this foundation came in a tube also. I really like how sleek and compact it is.

I think there are about 12 or so different shades to choose from. Around here anyway. I think the UK may only have about 6? (correct me if i'm wrong!) So that kind of sucks. I believe the one I chose is the lightest shade - 05 Warm Porcelain. I went with this one because most of the reviews I watched seemed like the shades were quite dark. The consistency is pretty thick feeling but lightweight when applied to your face. Its a mousse foundation similar to the Dream Matte Mousse. It claims to be a 'soft matte hydrating foundation'. It definitely feels cool on your face but not greasy at all.

A lot of the videos I watched claimed that this was a full coverage foundation while the package actually said medium coverage. I totally agree with the package though, its definitely not full coverage. I was a little worried about using a matte foundation because I do have dry patches on my face. I will admit that it does cling to some dry patches but it looks alright when using a primer first. Its definitely not as bad as other matte foundations i've tried in the past.

Applied with a Real Techniques stippling brush and no concealer added

I was extremely impressed with the color match to be honest. I think its near perfect to my actual skin color. It does what I tend to look for in a foundation- even out my skin tone. It does not cover blemishes all that well though. Another thing is that it doesn't really last that long. It may stay looking decent for about 3 hours? Not really long at all.

I rate this foundation 6 out of 10. Its really not a bad foundation and I've heard it works a lot better for combination skin. I think it gives decent coverage for the time that it lasts but like I said it isn't really all that long lasting. I'll definitely be happy using up the rest of the tube but I can't say i'll re-purchase this.

Currently Watching (In 3's)

A couple of week ago I mentioned I started re-watching the Jersey Shore episodes. I have no idea why & I have no idea why I even like the show to be honest! But meh, if you're into pointless reality shows that serve no real purpose other than to entertain yourself for an hour- give this one a go! They have all of the episodes on

Jeeze i'm just loving the reality shows lately aren't I?
I've been following Teen Mom and Teen Mom 2 since they first aired and I guess it just sort of became my guilty pleasure show. I actually find it quite interesting following the lives of the four very different women and seeing how they each raise their children. Obviously the show reveals a lot more drama than just how they parent but I like it.

Craig and I were going pretty strong with this show for a while but it sort of landed on the back burner of show watching lately. Mainly because Craig's work hours have been changed and we don't really have a lot of time to sit and watch tv together now and the x files has become one of those shows that we just watch together. I love it though. Anything paranormal or alien related you can count me in!

Trisha Paytas has quickly become one of my favorite Youtubers to watch. A lot of people love her, a lot of people hate her. To me she's just very real and I love seeing that. I find myself easily sucked in to watching her videos.

I love seeing a new video from Kalel pop up in my subscription box!
She mostly vlogs and has fantastic taste in home decorating and fashion. She's also probably the only vegan I watch on youtube that actually makes me consider going vegan or at the very least makes me want to eat less meat.

Even though psychics kind of scare me a little, I find these two quite fascinating. They've taken up doing psychic readings for all kinds of Youtubers and they're pretty interesting to watch!

So long Winter...

And Hello to Spring! Happy first day of Spring guys! I really wish it were the end of cold snowy days but I have a feeling we aren't going to be so lucky just yet! That's alright though, I actually didn't really mind the Winter this year. We didn't have nearly as much snow as last year and to me it seemed like every time we did have a snowstorm, it rained soon after and the snow would melt!

Anyway, Spring is here! And with the new season I thought I would set myself a few little goals. Nothing specific really, just some things to work towards:

Spring clean- We actually don't even have that much in our apartment so a Spring cleaning won't be too hard but I really want to go through the kitchen cupboards and get rid of any old food and things we don't need. I'd also like to repaint the cupboards and freshen them up a little. I think I may also go through my clothes again and get rid of anything I haven't worn in the past few months.

Make sure everything is ready to go for baby- This is an important season guys. We're going to have a new little addition in less than 10 weeks! I want to make sure everything is ready to go by then. We have all of the big purchases but we still need to pick up some little things like blankets and bottles and whatnot.

Happiness- Don't take this the wrong way, I have a million and one things to feel happy about, but lately I'm just finding it a little hard to hold on to that happiness. As some of you know, I deal with bouts of anxiety at times and sometimes-like now- the anxiety and stress I feel just completely consumes me. I don't really feel like getting into everything that's been bothering me lately though. All I can say is that Craig has been amazing as usual to help me along and I'm sure it'll pass soon. Anyway, my goal for this Spring is to really work on not letting things bring me down so much and keep holding on to whatever makes me feel happy. With a new baby on the way i'm sure it won't be too difficult :)

Are you happy Spring has finally arrived!?
What are some of your goals?

The Lyrics Tag

There's a drumming noise inside my head
That starts when you're around
I swear that you could hear it
It makes such an all mighty sound

Sometimes I feel like throwing my hands up in the air
I know I can count on you
Sometimes I feel like saying, "Lord I just don't care"
But you've got the love I need to see me through

And every demon wants his pound of flesh
But I like to keep some things to myself

As far as I could get
I went as far as I could get

When i'm falling i'm at peace
Its only when I hit the ground
It causes all the grief

You're gonna have to face it- you're addicted to love

I was looking for a breath of life
For a little touch of heavenly light

Born from dark water, daughter of the rain and snow

Between two lungs it was released
The breath that passed from you to me
It flew between us as we slept

Regrets collect like old friends
Here to relive your darkest moments
I can see no way, I can see no way
And all of the ghouls come out to play

Well that was harder than I expected! Let me know if you do this tag. I'm interested to see what bands you choose!

Protecting Your Computer And Yourself

Hey guys! Today I wanted to talk about something a little more serious on the blog. Something I have just had an unpleasant experience with and I thought maybe by sharing this I can help others out before something like this happens to them. Yesterday it was learned that our computer had been hacked. This happened because there were numerous viruses and malware on the computer which was most likely caused by visiting different websites and downloading infected files.

I'll give you a some-what quick recap of what went down yesterday..

I was at work and Craig called to let me know that we had a virus on the computer. I said okay and never really thought much about it. I came home, turned the laptop on and was confused at what I was seeing. The first thing I noticed was that there was some kind of strange software on the desktop that wouldn't go away. The weirdest part about it was that it was in Chinese. Next, about 5 different windows popped up displaying different things. After that about 20 boxes popped up saying Security Warning. The warning stated that the "anti-virus program" detected harmful viruses that could not be removed automatically and I needed to call this number to get step by step instructions on how to take care of the problem. At this point I had no idea what was going on and so I thought, well, maybe I should call that number. After all, it was supposedly from McAfee, our virus detector program.

I called and a seemingly nice woman answered the phone and asked what the problem was. I told her and she asked if she could have control over the computer by logging in and doing a scan to see where the corruption was. I said okay and she was good to go. After trying to figure out what was wrong for about an hour, she found maybe 7? or so IP addresses linked up to my computers IP address. She showed me where they were and sure enough they said "Foreign Addresses" and that they were connected. She then proceeded to tell me that these were hackers and that they were the reason for all of the Chinese software taking over my computer. I immediately panicked when she told me they could easily get into any login information I had on the computer. Credit cards, banking, email, everything. I asked her what I should do next and she said "we'll take care of it". Confused I asked, how? And she told me it was something their technician could do over the computer. She then told me everything that would need to be done with the computer and I said okay. It wasn't until she started rhyming off all of these prices to me that I began to feel suspicious about the whole thing. This is how our conversation went:

Me: I can't pay you over the phone for this service
Her: Why Not?
Me: Well because I don't have a credit card
Her: That's okay, do you have banking with a chequeing account?
Me: Yes....
Her: Oh well you can just send me an e-cheque and we'll take care of your computer
Me: Umm, I don't think so!
Her: Why not!?!?
Me: My computer is HACKED! I am certainly not going to attempt sending you my banking information over the computer! Just forget this, I'm going to bring the computer in somewhere to get fixed.
Her: No, no, no, no!!! You CANNOT! Only a certified microsoft technician can fix it. That's us, we must do it!
Me: No thank you! I'm going somewhere else.
Her: Just wait a minute!! I'll get the manager.

A man then comes onto the phone and asks what the problem is. I recap my conversation with the lady and he says "Yes, only we can fix it. Why do you have a problem paying us to fix it." I told him I didn't feel safe or secure paying over my computer which is obviously hacked and would rather take the computer in somewhere to have it fixed. He then proceeded to yell at me and tell me I was ridiculous and that I was just wasting his time and he was wasting mine. I said yes you are! And hung up the phone.

At this point I decided to take the computer to the Geek Squad which is located in Best Buy. I explained everything that happened and the guy told me to NEVER call numbers that pop up- even if they look legit and seem like they are from an anti-virus company. He told me he's pretty sure they were scammers and were in fact the ones who possibly made the "security warning" pop ups appear on my computer.

They had my computer overnight, wiped it clean, put on an anti-virus program and an anti-malware program and I signed up for their promotion where I get full-coverage on anything computer related for the next 3 years for only $15 a month.

It is absolutely sickening what can happen over the internet and how fast a person can hack your computer and do what they want with any information they find on it.

My advice to everyone is please make sure you have a really good anti-virus and anti-malware program on your computer and make sure you actually RUN the programs at least once a week. If possible try not to use the computer for keeping track of really important information about yourself. And my last piece of advice is, don't be dumb like me and actually call a number that appears on a pop-up! No matter how "real" it looks.

Sorry this post turned out to be super long but I just felt like I needed to share what happened to me yesterday because honestly, computers and the internet have become a huge part of everyone's lives and its so easy to become careless and forget that these things do happen. Be safe when it comes to the internet!

Oh Happy Days #7

I have to say, I sort of struggled this week finding things that made me happy. I think it was mainly because I've had a head cold all week and still feeling a little under the weather. But! Even with a crappy week behind you, there will always be at least a little happiness to be found.

STRAWBERRIES- I've been craving strawberries for a while but since they weren't in season they were ridiculously priced at the grocery store and I just couldn't bring myself to pay so much for them. You can imagine my excitement when I bought groceries the other day and saw the strawberries were significantly cheaper! Had to buy myself two cartons!

GETTING OFF WORK AT 3:30PM- For the past few months I had to cut my work shifts down to 9-330 everyday due to my back acting up. I've never been as grateful for these shorter shifts as I have been this past week! It must be because my belly is getting bigger and putting extra pressure on my back but my god its been uncomfortable!

BEING MENTIONED ON JESS' BLOG- It truly makes my day when I see people viewing and commenting on my blog. It just blows me away when another blogger takes the time to mention my blog on theirs! Jess from the blog Jess In Retrospect included me in her 'Blogs To Check Out' list and I couldn't be more grateful :) So thank you very much and everyone be sure to head over there and check out her blog!

FRESH FLOWERS ON THE TABLE- I love having fresh flowers in the house. It makes it feel a little more Springy in here. I saw some beautiful dyed flowers at the grocery store and I just had to get them!

OUR STROLLER/CAR SEAT ARRIVED- Last week I mentioned that we bought the stroller/car seat combo we were wanting for a really great price. Well this week it finally came and we set it all up and I just cannot wait to start going for walks!! Having the car seat now makes me feel like there's a huge weight lifted off my shoulders. Even if we don't quite have everything yet, at least I know I can get the baby home from the hospital!

CRAIG'S FAMILY VISITING- We were aware that Craig's sister and her husband and children were coming up to visit this weekend but we didn't know his mom was also coming! So she ended up staying here with us for two nights. It was a very nice surprise :)

A Glass Of Ice is our blog of the week!
A gorgeous lady by the name of Gabrielle runs this blog and I can say it's one of my absolute favorites, hands down! She blogs a little of everything from travel to fashion and beauty. I love her hotel wishlist posts which always leave me wanting to visit basically every one she mentions! And her recent chewy chocolate chip cookie post left my mouth watering. Please be sure to head on over there and check out her blog! :)

My Thoughts On Fuller House

When I first heard about Fuller House being made and released on Netflix, I was beyond excited. Growing up watching the original Full House I just couldn't wait to see what this new show would bring. Unfortunately, I just don't like Fuller House.

I'm actually quite disappointed that I don't like it. I want to like it. Everyone else seems to like it. But I just don't.

There are a couple of reasons the show just doesn't cut it for me:

one- Its all so unoriginal. I mean what are the chances the kids are going to grow up and pretty much end up in the exact same position their father was left in. *SPOILER in case you haven't seen it yet* Danny lost his wife in Full House and was left to raise 3 daughters. In Fuller House, DJ loses her husband and is left to raise her 3 sons. Danny's brother in law Jesse comes to help with the kids. DJ's sister Stephanie comes to help with the kids. Danny's goofy best friend also comes to help. This is where Kimmy comes in for DJ. I would have liked if they came up with a new storyline and just told their stories as adults. Why does it have to be the exact same?

two- I'm pretty sure everyone has forgotten how to act. Seriously. Full House was awesome. They were all great actors. It just seemed to come naturally to them. But in Fuller House everything just seems so "acted" you know what I mean? Like maybe they're trying too hard? Who knows.

I've only made it to episode 5. I know some people who have watched all 13 episodes in a day and have loved it but I just can't get into it. I find myself constantly thinking throughout the episode "is it almost over yet". Oh well, I gave it a try. I wanted to like it. It just wasn't happening for me.

Oh Happy Days #6

That's right, i'm bringing back the Happy Days series!! Its been way too long (July to be exact) since I posted an Oh Happy Days post. Just to refresh your memories this is a series where I post on Sunday recounting whatever has made me happy the previous week- Sunday to Saturday- I'll usually throw in a 'happy photo of the week', 'happy quote of the week' and then a shoutout to a blog of the week! On with the happiness!

HEARING THE BIRDS CHIRP IN THE MORNING- A sure sign that Spring is on its way!! Although yesterday we ended up getting a ton of snow :/ poor birds.

♥ GETTING A GRAPH OF OUR BABY'S HEARTBEAT- I haven't mentioned this before but the hospital is giving us quite a hard time with getting ultrasound pictures of our baby. Everyone in the entire world seems to be able to get one but for some reason we can't. BUT! that's okay! We were super delighted when I went for my RH shots the other day when the lady asked if we wanted to hear the baby's heartbeat to pass time and then she so graciously printed out a picture of the heartbeat :)

♥ BUYING THE STROLLER WE WANTED FOR $150 OFF- Okay well it wasn't the EXACT one we wanted but its basically the same only a different color! We knew we wanted to get a stroller/car seat combo with the stroller being extremely durable with larger wheels for going for walks. They were a little on the expensive side but hey, why not get the one you want? Fortunately for us Babies R Us is holding a huge baby fest sale and we got the one we wanted for $150 off!

♥ ALREADY STOCKING UP (AND MUNCHING OUT ON) EASTER CHOCOLATE- Mini eggs galore, bars with rice krispys, did I mention the cookie dough filled chocolate rabbits?

♥ JERSEY SHORE- I knowww, what the heck? haha I've recently started re-watching all of the Jersey Shore episodes and I don't know what it is about those tan, fist pumping people but i'm just addicted to the show!

♥ I FINALLY BOUGHT A DUFFEL BAG- I haven't owned a proper travelling bag in ages and it came to the point where I was either trying to stuff my clothes into Craig's bag or just using plastic bags...don't judge. All is good now though and I can carry my belongings in style.

♥ DOING WELL ON OUR TAX RETURN- I was so nervous going to our tax appointment yesterday. I thought for sure we were going to have to pay in. To my surprise we ended up actually getting some money back and now a small trip we had planned for Easter weekend is definitely a go!

Our little baby's heartbeat  The nurse said it was strong and healthy

This week's Blog of the Week goes to Jessica from I just love her blog! She blogs about her life, her new hobbies and interests and if you ever need good recommendations of what shows to watch next you can totally count on her to deliver! Check out her blog if you haven't already!

So that wraps up this weeks 'Oh Happy Days'! Just to remind you all my giveaway is still going. But only for another 12 HOURS! So if you want a chance to win some pretty awesome Live Clean products click here to enter the giveaway!!

Rimmel Lasting Finish Foundation

Today I wanted to share with you all the foundation I've been using for the past 2 months or so. The Rimmel Lasting Finish 25 Hr Foundation. This is by no means my new 'Holy Grail' foundation but I did like it enough to keep wearing it for almost 2 months so it's not bad!

The girl at the beauty counter in Shoppers matched me to the shade 100 Ivory. At first after she did my makeup in store and I had walked out with the foundation I thought I made a huge mistake. It looked waay too dark and just not pretty at all. I went home and took it off and reapplied it myself and thankfully I realized the girl just didn't bother to blend it in properly and had it on way too thick. The color ended up being okay.

The packaging is nice. It has a pump which I know everyone appreciates! I wouldn't even begin to tell you that it actually lasts for 25 hours-who would have their makeup on that long?- but i'd say it lasts a good portion of the day. Its pretty matte and it does cling to a couple of my dry patches around my nose but I hardly ever use moisturizer before applying so that's probably my own fault!

Excuse my bare face in this picture but I wanted to show before and after photos ( it seriously drives me crazy when beauty bloggers review foundation, etc and never show what it actually looks like!)

So thats before and the next picture shows how the foundation looks with just one coat. Also take note I am not wearing any moisturizer or primer before applying the foundation. This is just plain foundation on my face.

So as you can see you can notice that it clings to a few dry patches around my face. But you know, someone who actually knows how to apply makeup properly could probably make this foundation look 100 times better! I think i'd be better suited with a more dewy foundation but every time I try one out I find I just end up looking extremely greasy! I will gladly take any recommendations for any dewy foundations you guys like to use.

It may not be the best foundation for me but I do quite like it. The color matches well, it does an alright job of evening out my skin tone and its fairly cheap. I would definitely purchase it again.
