No Motivation?

So I've not been posting very much recently. I don't have an excuse really. Just a severe lack of motivation. Honestly, there is nothing I can think of that seems interesting enough for me to sit down and write. The only thing I really feel like posting about is when we actually go out and do something fun which hasn't been happening because there really isn't all that much to do during the winter.

So just bare with me! I'm hoping with the days getting longer and Spring just around the corner I may get some motivation to blog back.

I'll have Lux's 9 month update to do in a few days so you'll  be seeing that soon.

Anyway, just wanted to update and say hey!

What do you do when you feel like you have zero motivation to blog?

What Lux Wore #1

I cannot get over how adorable this outfit is!! Shopping for Lux is 100 times more fun than shopping for myself. I saw this outfit at Winners last week and knew I had to have it. I also picked up another for her in the exact same outfit only it has a different print (which confusingly cost two dollars more?) BUT ANYWAY! It was only $12.99 for this three piece outfit and I think the cute little head band is what makes it. It's such a soft, comfortable material and I know she's going to get so much use out of it.
Unfortunately I can't link it because Winners kind of gets like random clothing shipped to them if you know what I mean? It's good in a way because chances are you won't see anyone else with the same clothing item as you but it's also bad because if you don't pick up whatever you see right then and there chances are it'll be gone for good the next time you go in!

What do you think of this cute outfit!? xx

Museum of Natural History | Here Be Dragons

The Museum of Natural History is one of my favourite museums to visit. Craig and I have gone a few times before but this visit was Lux's first. The thing I love most about this museum is that while they have their constant exhibits (wildlife, ancient artifacts, etc) they always change up a section of the museum showcasing a fun, new exhibit.

This time around....DRAGONS!

Seems odd for a history museum to highlight a mythical creature but that's just what it was about. The myth and legends about dragons throughout history.

I love anything magical or mystical so this was right up my alley. (warning: photo heavy post!)

The dragon section obviously didn't have any "dragon" artifacts but there were a bunch of cute lizards and information about komodo dragons.

Something that I thought was interesting is this fossil two men found in 2006. It's a dinosaur fossil but it really looks like it could have belonged to a dragon. They named it Dracorex Hogwartsia after Harry Potter.

We had such a great day. Lux is still too small to understand where we were but she loves being out and about and seemed to be having fun :) Whenever we take her somewhere we try to buy her a little souvenir so we picked up this cute little fox nightlight.

How Gemini Am I? Part 2

Wow, its been a looong time since I first decided to start this little mini series. November of 2015 to be exact. To give you a quick re-cap I decided to use information from one of those astrology sites about Gemini's traits and qualities and compare them with myself to see just how Gemini I really am.

To make it more interesting I get my boyfriend to give you his thoughts on these traits compared to myself and then I respond to what he thinks. You might want to read Part 1 of this series first to get you started!

Black = Description
Blue= Craig's Response
Pink= My Response

[Gemini make very interesting and exciting friends. They like to leave their mark on everyone they meet] Yes they do but I couldn't possibly know if they like to leave their mark on people.

[They are very flighty and will disappear for a long time as they meet new friends and explore new places] Yes. You like to explore and always want to go somewhere new. You moved away and didn't mind leaving all of your friends for the last 8 years.

[They are masters of communication and they can help you get what you need by helping you with persuasion and enthusiasm, and they give good advice too] As long as you're not being too stubborn to communicate, you're a good communicator. You do give good advice from time to time.

[Do not however, bog a gemini down with all of your emotional problems. They do not want to deal with it because it depresses them and steps on their freedom if you need too much long term help] Absolutely. 100%

[A gemini friend can fill you in on the latest gossip] Yup. You always tell me everything that's going on with everything

[They are very generous with their friends. They will spend lots of time with you and share everything with you] Absolutely. Most generous person I know

[Even though gemini is a social butterfly, they always need time for themselves] haha yes! You have always told me you need your own space.

I'm quite shocked at how accurate this portion was to be honest. As bad as it might be I never do feel bad about losing touch with people when I go somewhere new. I most certainly do get depressed when I hear about someone elses problems over and over. I'm a regular old gossip bag and I crave time to myself quite often.

I'm excited to continue on with this series now! I find it to be pretty interesting. If you're a Gemini, let me know if any of this described you at all.

How To Deal With a Colicky Baby

                                                                                 Colic. The thing every new parent hopes they won't have to deal with when their baby finally arrives. Around 25% of babies develop colic. Lux was part of that 25%. She developed colic around 4-5 weeks old. Since she is now well past that stage (hallelujah) I feel like I might be able to share some insight on how we dealt with it for two and a half months. Hopefully some of these tips I'm about to share might help you if you're dealing with a colicky baby.

First, a little google definition of colic for those lucky bunch who don't know what colic is;
  1. severe, often fluctuating pain in the abdomen caused by intestinal gas or obstruction in the intestines and suffered especially by babies.

What I mean by this is get ready for the "fussy" time. Usually, not always, but usually colic hits at the same time everyday. For Lux, her colic hit every evening between 6pm and 9pm. We knew it was going to happen at that time every night so we had to mentally prepare ourselves for 3 hours of unsoothable crying. If you have a partner, make sure you take turns looking after the baby and if you're alone hopefully you have a family member or a friend nearby who can come help out at this time. During the colicky stage try to schedule plans around the fussy time. You certainly don't want to be out in the grocery store at 6 in the evening when your baby starts wailing.

One thing that used to calm Lux down, if only for ten minutes, was to lay her belly down across my lap. Gently rub their back while they're laying this way and it might help. Every baby is different but for some reason Lux really liked this.

This didn't always work but most of the time when we would rub her belly (around the belly button area) she would relax a little. Remember colic is caused by severe pain in the abdomen so a little pressure there really helps with the pain.

Dealing with a colicky baby is hard. It's really hard. And you're going to feel extremely frustrated. Always remember that this isn't the baby's fault. They're the ones who are in pain and can't do anything about it. If you feel like you're getting too worked up about it, hand the baby over to someone else and walk away. Taking 20 minutes to yourself to calm down is perfectly fine.

It may feel like this stage will never end but trust me, it does. At first Lux would cry for three hours straight. It was a nightmare. But over time, the crying gradually became less and less. Eventually the crying was down to twenty minutes at night and by three and a half months she was over it completely. Colic does not affect your baby in the long run. Honestly, Lux is the most smiley, happy baby I've ever seen. You would never think we had such a rough time just a few short months ago.

If you're a new parent going through this right now, I hope these tips helped at least a little. And remember, there IS a light at the end of the tunnel. You just have to get through it.

Valentine's Day Tips | Dress Code

One of the biggest questions we face when it comes to a Valentine's date is; What the heck am I going to wear? And let's face it, finding that perfect outfit can make all the difference when it comes to boosting our confidence!

Adore Me kindly shared these cute customizable cards with me full of amazing Valentine's Day tips to ensure you have a fabulous, stress free Valentine's Day!

G O I N G  O U T
Getting all dolled up doesn't happen very often for me so when we go out on a date it always feels really good getting dressed up. With that being said I still like to feel comfortable and as I'm not one for dresses I feel most confident in skinny jeans and a pretty blouse. But even wearing that you can still totally feel dressed up by adding some super cute shoes, dainty jewellery and a killer coat.

I think it's an unwritten rule to wear red on Valentine's Day. And for good reason. Red is a sexy colour and can make an outfit really pop. If you aren't into wearing red clothing, try some red lipstick or nail polish!

S T A Y I N G  I N
As much as it would be nice going out for Valentine's Day, realistically we're probably just going to order take out and stay in. Treating each other to some really sweet pj sets is such a good idea! You can even opt for some themed pj's for the occasion.

Wearing sexy new lingerie under your clothes can be all the confidence boost you need. It's almost like having your own little secret. Adore Me have some gorgeous sets if you're interested in checking them out.

First Toboggan Ride

Sunday brought with it a fresh bed of snow that was just calling our names.

Craig's dad got Lux's toboggan all ready and we were set. This was her first time in a toboggan, first time out in the snow actually, so we were very excited to see her reaction.

Her reaction......😐

I'm not sure if she hated it or loved it. This was her face the entire time though LOL Although, she didn't make a peep. No crying or fussing. So maybe she actually did enjoy it and was just taking it all in?

I don't know about her but I had a fantastic time. Our first snowy walk as a family was a success.

I just love the snow and the sense of calm it brings. I couldn't imagine living in a world without it.

Maybelline Dream Liquid Mousse Review

Up next in the Best of the Best series is Maybelline's Dream Liquid Mousse foundation. Some of you may remember the good old high school days when everyyyyone wore the dream matte mousse and had perfectly orange tinted faces.....let's not go back to that.

You may fear the 'dream mousse' name because of that but I say fear not! The liquid mousse is slightly better than the matte mousse.

I'm in the shade 10 Porcelain Ivory and obviously, by the looks of my photo, I've used quite a bit of this foundation already so it must not be too bad right?

As usual here is a before and after photo. I thought this was prime time to do a foundation test for you because my face decided to hate me and sprout like 6 pimples all over my chin. Thanks face.

(I know the lighting is off in these photos but I only have the natural light from my window to work with and the sun was being a bugger and kept going behind clouds but you can still get the gist from the photos. ANYWAY)

This foundation is a little on the slick side. Not greasy but not matte (obviously, duh Renee. I'd be getting out my trusty MATTE mousse if I wanted matte). The colour matches quite nicely but as you can tell, it doesn't cover blemishes all that well. It does an okay job but I wouldn't call this full coverage by any means. Lasting power isn't too great. Maybe four to five hours.

So I'm giving this foundation a 5 out of 10 stars. Colour match is good, great if you just want a lightweight, low coverage foundation. But other than that I'd just skip this one altogether.

Eight Months Old

Oh my goodness how do I have an eight month old already!? It's crazy watching a tiny human grow before your eyes. Her personality is really coming through now and she's just the funniest little girl. Here are a few updates from the past month:

♥ EVERYTHING MAKES HER LAUGH. Most of the time you only have to look at her and laugh and she'll start laughing back at you. She also does this funny little "fake laugh" all the time.

♥ SHE'S STANDING! As you can see from her picture she can now stand alone!! She needs a tiny bit of help from the wall or something else behind her but her balance is amazing. She tries to take steps towards me while standing there so I think she'll be walking in no time!

♥ SIDE SLEEPING. She can roll over like a pro now and that means she rolls over in her sleep. Almost every night she now gets comfy on her side or belly and falls asleep like that. It's the cutest darn thing.

♥ BECOMING QUITE THE WHINER. I have no idea why but she is SO whiney these days. She never used to whine about anything but now when she can't reach something or she's tired she lets out this high pitched whine. I really hope it's just something that happens around this age and it doesn't continue LOL

♥ LITTLE SWIMMER. We started swimming this month and she absolutely LOVES it!! I'm super happy about that because I love swimming but Craig doesn't like it that much so now I'll have someone who'll hopefully stay in the water longer than 10 minutes with me 😜

My baby sure is growing up. I can't wait to see what the next month has in store for us :)
