The Ladybug

Today I watched a ladybug crawl along the curtain in my room.
A speckle of red upon white.

Watching her crawl with such determination..
Like she knew where she wanted to go..
I felt a sense of calm wash over me.

I wonder where she's headed?

She moved so fast I lost sight of her.
But as quickly as she left I see her right in front of me.
I see a tiny flicker of wing as it folds back under her shell.

Her small body hides her wings perfectly.
You would never think they were there.

She doesn't use them often.
Only when she really needs to.

If only I were a ladybug.

10 Unusual Things You Didn't Know About Me

Move aside "basic" facts. It's time for something a little unusual..

1// I never bite anything with my front teeth. I have a fake piece of tooth and I'm scared if I bite something hard it'll break

2// I have a small freckle on each of my second toes. In the exact same spot. I refer to them as twins.

3// I often find pure white hairs on my head and it makes me panic.

4// My middle fingers are slightly crooked.

5// I can never start a book and not finish it. It drives me insane. Even if I hate the book and it takes me years to finish- I'll finish it.

6// My wrists and fingers are extremely flexible. Sometimes I wonder if they're made of rubber.

7// I have terrible balance. Even while walking I tend to walk into walls.

8// I hate calling people on the phone. To make appointments, order food, anything- I get super nervous and awkward.

9// I got a small fracture in my spine a couple of years ago and it took forever to heal.

10// I feel like I never have solid plans mapped out regarding my life/future. Sure, there are things I hope for regarding my future but I never have any idea what I actually want out of life.

Q. Tell me an unusual fact about you!

April Showers Bring May Flowers..

At least that's what I hope for.

And no. I'm not speaking literally here. I'm not talking about April's rain and May's flowers and Spring to finally arrive full force.

I'm talking about the messy weather that's been going on inside my head lately.

I won't bore you with the details about my latest, ongoing anxiety battle and quite honestly I don't feel like writing it all out. Instead, let's talk about how anxiety affects us. Our mind and body. I'd love to know that this isn't just me..

"How can I feel so good, so normal one minute and the next I'm a complete mess?

Why does every little ache and pain cause my mind to spiral out of control and settle on the thought that I'm going to die? Any minute now.

Why does my anxiety cause so much body pain anyway?

Should I try medication? Is that the only thing that will help me now?

Medication scares me...

If I try it will I need to be on it for the rest of my life? But if I don't try it...will I be like this for the rest of my life?"

It's safe to say I've taken a beating this past month (well, two months) by my old friend anxiety. I feel like it's consuming me and I have no clue what to do about it. I've been to the doctor a handful of times this month and each time I'm met with the same conclusion. "You need to do something about your anxiety". Each time I'm offered the choice of medication which, I'm beginning to think very strongly about. There are other factors when it comes to me starting medication though so it's not like it can happen just like that.

I don't know...

I'm taking small steps to overcome my anxiety. Having doctors check out my "problem" areas and getting the OK eases my mind for a while. I stopped eating both dairy and gluten (I have sensitivities) and while I still feel anxious I can honestly say my head hasn't felt this clear in a long time. I've read that eating gluten when you have an intolerance to it can cause all sorts of problems for you. Anxiety and depression being a major one. I've only been gluten free for two weeks now so I'll let you know how I feel in another two weeks. I've also been talking things out with my boyfriend and various family members which seems to help a little.

One thing I know for sure is that I will never let anxiety take over completely. No matter how hard it pushes me, I'll push back twice as hard.

Because I'm choosing to believe no matter how many showers I get caught up in....with even the smallest bit of sunshine flowers can't help but push right through the dirt and bloom like they're meant to.

Lux's First Easter

Well Easter came and went didn't it? At least that's how it felt to me. Maybe because we were travelling and we didn't get to have a nice relaxing Easter at home.

This year we decided we would head down to Cape Breton to spend Easter with our families. We spent Easter night and part of the morning at my grandparent's house and then the rest of the morning at Craig's mother's house.

Easter night was terrible, if I'm being completely honest. Every time we travel Lux's schedule ends up all out of whack which leads to an all out of whack Lux. It's like she forgets how to sleep or something so for the duration of the trip she's tired, I'm tired and everyone is cranky.

Even though we were cranky we couldn't let that interfere with Lux celebrating her first Easter!

Since it was her first Easter and she's only ten and a half months the Easter Bunny didn't get her many toys for Easter. Mainly things she "needed". Like a spring coat, a new bathing suit and hat for the beach, socks and a pretty new Easter dress. But the bunny did make sure she received a new book, some Disney dvds, a care bear and her new favourite toy- a ride on Finding Dory train car.

After getting all dolled up and having a mini photoshoot we made our way to Craig's mom's for an easter egg hunt with Lux's cousins.

By the end of the egg hunt and after some playtime, Lux was more than ready to hit the road and start our long journey back home.

I think she had a pretty good first Easter! Next Easter will be more fun though because she'll be a little older and will sort of know what the heck is going on!

I hope you all had a fantastic Easter! 🐰

What Lux Wore #2

Let me start this post off by stating how increasingly difficult it is becoming month after month to take decent photos of Lux! She doesn't stand still for more than a second so I have to work with what I can get. I found these pants at Walmart and I thought they were the most adorable pants I've ever seen. *it should be noted that Craig thinks they're hideous.

Initially I picked up this exact top in white to go with these pants but Lux's grandmother picked this one up in pink and seeing as I'm trying to feel all "springy", we went with the pink top!

I love the lace design on this top and the longer ruffle at the back just adds that little baby girl touch. The pants are a little loose fitting because we bought them (mostly) to go over her legs while they were bandaged so she has some wiggle room to grow into them which means she can wear these for a long time....sorry Craig. (😏)

Why is Easter My Favourite Holiday?

When someone is asked what their favourite holiday is, Christmas almost always shoots out of their mouth without a second thought. With good reason. Everyone loves a bit of Christmas.

Myself, on the other hand, I love Easter the most.

It has nothing to do with the whole religious aspect of it- unfortunately- I'm not a very religious person. There's just something about Easter that makes me feel happy from the inside out.

I think what makes Easter so appealing is that it's the first holiday after Winter and trust me, being from Canada I am usually so ready for Spring to arrive and see the snow melt and the ice thaw. It kind of makes Easter feel like a fresh new start is upon us.

After all the hustle and bustle surrounding Christmas I feel like Easter is totally laid back and I can actually enjoy the holiday without any stress. Not to mention it isn't a "huge" holiday like Christmas so you don't feel like you have to buy everyone and their dog a present. Also, chocolate. A holiday solely dedicated to chocolate will always be one close to my heart.

Am I the only one who loves the fact that everything turns pastel around Easter!? I'm a huge sucker for pastel anything so the time leading up to and surrounding Easter is like a feast for my eyes.

So to sum it all up- everything about Easter just makes me feel happy. How can I not choose Easter as my favourite holiday when it makes me feel so good?

Q. What's your favourite holiday?
Does Easter give you all the good feels too!?

10 Months Old

Wow, ten months old. At times I can't quite believe Lux has already been with us for ten whole months, but yet, other times it feels like she's been with us forever. She's so smart. Like, blow my mind smart sometimes and she's such a little ham. She has inherited her dad's funny personality, that's for sure. In the past month she...

Peek-a-boo is a game you start playing with your child almost immediately. It's so much fun when they start peek-a-booing you! While we're laying down Lux will pull the blanket over her head and tear it down really fast. I still have to say peek-a-boo when she does it but that doesn't stop her from repeating the action over and over :)

Seems like a small feat but hey, anything your kid learns feels pretty special to you :)

You may have already read the post I wrote about it here but Lux had received second degree burns on her legs due to an accident while we were at a restaurant. She had to get them wrapped for a week and once the bandages were taken off I couldn't believe how great they looked. It's incredible how fast a baby's body can heal. Obviously they aren't fully healed and we still need to use cream and massage the burns four times a day so scar tissue doesn't build up but ultimately they look amazing. After a few days she was back to her happy, smiley self :)

bandaged legs

Her two little teeth on the bottom have popped through!! When I first saw them I wanted to cry haha I feel like we've been in the teething process foreverrrrr (which is no walk in the park) so I wanted to do a happy dance when those pointy little nubs came through. It should only be a matter of time before the top ones arrive.

Okay so it's not perfect but when she's holding a brush and I ask "can you brush mama's hair" she'll run the brush over a section of my hair. She'll also try to do it to her own hair. It's super cute.

My smart little cookie gives high-fives when she's asked! Although she likes to give multiple high fives at once haha

She has become such a loving little girl this month. Anytime you ask for kisses or even make the kissy face, she'll lean over and give you a great big slobber. It's even more adorable when you don't ask for one and she just comes over and kisses all over our cheeks.

We've recently started her on finger foods and it's been so much fun! She's had cucumber sticks, tiny pieces of cheese and baby rice rusks. She also loves these little Love Duck snacks. They're kind of like cheesies but they're apple and carrot flavoured instead.

I hope you guys enjoyed her 10 month update!
I feel like this was a pretty big month for her :)

How To Make Any Nail Polish Matte

I absolutely love the way matte nail polish looks on fingernails. I don't know why exactly. I just prefer this look over the usual shiny polished look. I first came across matte nails while looking on pinterest one day and I fell in love! The only problem was I couldn't find this matte nail polish anywhere. Accepting that I'll never have matte nails (unless I went to a salon, which, mama can't afford to be doing that on the regular) I moved on. Until one day...

I found the product of my dreams.

Cue the bells and whistles.

Essie's Matte About You Top Coat. This stuff is amazing. You can use absolutely any colour nail polish (the packaging says to use with any essie nail colour but I'm sure they just say that because obviously it's their product) and it'll turn your nails matte.

Here's a before and after of my nails. *excuse the messy nail painting.

I originally wanted to wait until my nails were nice and long before testing it out but I couldn't wait any longer. I decided to Spring it up a bit and went with essie's Tart Deco (one of my fave's). I applied two coats and then one coat of the Matte About You. It transformed in seconds! I'm in love with the results.

I couldn't be happier with this product. It gives my exactly what I was looking for and can do this with literally any colour I want. I think I paid around $9.00 for this at Walmart. The same price as any essie nail polish there and it's definitely worth the money.

Q. Do you prefer the look of shiny or matte nails more?
Also let me know if you've ever tried this and love it as much as I do.
